Brief Bio

Samantha Matlin, PhD, Dr. Matlin is the Director of Workforce Education at the Penn Center for Public Health and
leads the Center’s Public Health Impact Hub, which provides workforce development, technical assistance, and capacity building support to public health practitioners and community-based organizations. Dr. Matlin is a clinical/community psychologist is a Psychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and teaching faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Master of Public Health program. She is a Practice-Based Scholar and Director of the Professional Development & Training Program at the Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Dr. Matlin is also a psychologist at CHOP and Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. At CHOP, she provides trauma-focused care for children and adolescents and leads the professional development and training pillar at CVP.

She is the former VP of learning and community impact at the Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation as well as the former special advisor to the commissioner at the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services, where she contributed to the formulation of high priority programmatic initiatives and policy. Dr. Matlin has 15 years of experience in program evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practices in schools and communities with a focus on mental health promotion and social and emotional learning.
