Brief Bio

Eliza W. Kinsey, PhD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Perelman School of Medicine. Dr. Kinsey is a social epidemiologist whose research interests lay at the intersection between unmet social needs, built environment, and public health. Her current areas of inquiry include the effect of food insecurity and poverty on child and maternal health trajectories across the life course, the neighborhood food environment and its relationship to obesity and chronic disease, and the influence of food assistance policies on diet quality and health status.

In her work, Dr. Kinsey prioritizes policy translation and producing research findings that contribute to the generation of data driven policies to improve population health. She is a member of the CDC’s Nutrition and Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network (NOPREN). In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors for the South Philly Food Co-op.

Dr. Kinsey holds a PhD in City and Regional Planning and a Master of Public Health from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master of Science in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition from Tufts University. She completed her postdoctoral training in Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
